Jamaica has been named the Best Caribbean Vacation this year at the 2022 Travel Awards, the tourism industry’s equivalent to the Oscars, demonstrating its excellent recovery from the outbreak. Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism welcomed the news, saying that “the feeling of pleasure is stronger this year” since the country “fought” to recover from Covid. Despite being one of the first nations to restore borders during the crisis, Jamaica enforced harsher travel restrictions until recently due to its reliance on American currency.
However, on April 14, the island removed all entrance regulations, enabling unvaccinated US nationals to return without pre-departure tests. Naturally, the relocation increased demand, with Montego Bay surpassing every other city in the Caribbean league in terms of recovery. The fact that Jamaica has dominated the award event should come as no surprise.
